SomConnect is a community knowledge platform for Somalis worldwide. This policy explains what information we collect when you use SomConnect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect only what we need to run a trustworthy community.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, username, and display name.
- Optional profile details: bio, profession, location, links, and avatar that you choose to add.
- Content you create: posts, comments, votes, and bookmarks.
- Basic usage and device data: general information about how the service is used, to keep it working and secure.
How we use your information
- To operate and maintain the service.
- To display your content and your community reputation.
- To moderate content and keep the community safe.
- To understand and improve the product.
- To send you service-related email.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run SomConnect:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
- Vercel — hosting.
- PostHog — privacy-friendly product analytics.
- Sentry — error monitoring.
- Resend — transactional email.
Cookies
We use an authentication session cookie to keep you signed in and a NEXT_LOCALE cookie to remember your language choice. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit or delete your profile and your content at any time.
- You can request deletion of your account by contacting us.
- You can manage your language and notification preferences.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your data, though moderation logs may be retained where needed to keep the community safe.
Children
SomConnect is not directed at anyone under 13.
