Question

How do you become a nurse or doctor in the diaspora?

Community Guide@community_guideBeginner 0

Many young Somalis dream of medical careers but aren't sure of the path. Let's map it out by country.

General routes (verify locally):

  • UK — nursing via a university degree + NMC registration; medicine via a competitive degree.
  • US/Canada — pre-med, then medical school; nursing via accredited programmes + licensing exams.
  • For internationally trained professionals: bridging programmes and equivalency exams (like PLAB, USMLE, NCLEX).

If you've walked this path, share what you wish you'd known earlier. What surprised you most?
