How do Somali startups accept online payments?

Payments are one of the hardest parts of building for the Somali market. Let's map out what actually works.

What I know so far:

• Mobile money (EVC Plus, Zaad, Sahal) dominates locally — most users expect it.
• For diaspora-facing products, Stripe or Paddle work, but availability depends on where your business is registered.
• Some founders route through a partner entity in Kenya, the UK, or the UAE.
